Adaptive hierarchy for the binnacle
Sitting in a meeting with our sometime partner USTwo, we said: “How come every car’s instrument binnacle UI design is so legacy driven – why don’t we rethink this together as a collaborative ‘what-if’ project?”
Research and Outputs:
CDR focused on defining a tight project concept of a screen that had adaptive hierarchy — where the TFT binnacle screen might bias the display to currently relevant information, not remain fixed in (for example) displaying speed when the car is stationary. USTwo then realised this using a two week design and prototyping sprint with an animated schematic illustration of how location, weather, personal messages, reversing, speed limits, and road conditions might impact on the display.
